This is a Pfaltzgraff America pattern charger, serivce plate, or platter with a dog design in the center. America was made by Pfaltzgraff for the Museum of American Folk Art, so they are marked with Pfaltzgraff and MAFA backstamps. This one has a long explanation of the America motifs coming from a Bird of Paradise pattern antique quilt. The charger is 12 1/8" wide. The plate has a blue sponge painted rim, and the center design looks like sponged versions of quilt blocks. Pfaltzgraff produced America between 1983-1989.
